Case Study: Expresso Folding Sack Trucks for Asda

EXPRESSO UK was delighted to win a contract to supply a folding aluminium sack truck with a bespoke hook to be used in the home delivery vehicles for ASDA one of the UK’s largest supermarkets.

PARRS were first approached by Asda in June 2022 as they already had a folding sack truck but this was causing them issues with breakages. At the time they were not prepared to financially commit to an alternative truck, so they decided not to proceed any further. Their breakages continued and in December 2022 they were back on to us to see whether we could help offer an alternative sack truck that was better quality than the one they currently had.

Of course, we knew it must be an Expresso sack truck to make sure it was of the best quality. The truck had to be lightweight and folding with a special hook to hold their tote baskets in place. We started our discussions with Expresso to see what we could offer. After much review, they provided us with the perfect solution, including a bespoke hook. Yes, Asda will pay more for this new truck, but we were all confident that they won’t have the reoccurring issues that they currently had.

We had to prove the Expresso truck was worth the extra financial commitment. So, Asda wanted to put a trial in place. They purchased 57 Expresso folding trucks and the trial began. We needed their drivers to see for themselves how good this Expresso truck is. The trial went on for several weeks and the feedback was all positive, which was good. There were a few tweaks required to the hook, but the Expresso design and manufacturing team soon got this sorted. We submitted our final quote and waited.

It was very exciting and rewarding to be told that we had won the order for 3400 folding sack trucks. Due to Asda’s work schedule, the new trucks need to be delivered by the end of October which was tight but achievable.

By the end of October, all the new trucks were rolled out to the home delivery vehicles ready for Asda’s busy season. It was great to work with the team at Asda and find a solution to their manual handling problem. Established in 1886 PARRS has continued to develop our expertise in offering the best manual handling equipment and this project was a testament to that.
