Shadow Boards

Shadow Boards provide a useful way to keep workplace cleaning equipment or other tools organised. They can be bought in various colours so you can colour code cleaning items depending on which room or area you are working on to prevent cross-contamination. Shadow boards help support 5S Methodology. It includes 5 steps known as the 5 S's that turn businesses into a step by step system for employees to follow. It is considered as the foundation of lean manufacturing because it reduces waste and adds efficiency to the workforce.

There are five key practices involved in 5S Methodology.
These are:

Sort – Sort through the materials you use and only keep the essential items required to complete the tasks. Everything that is not used should be removed from the work area.

Streamline – Organise all items and make sure it has its place. Items should be set in a logical way to make tasks easier for employees to complete. This involves placing items in an ergonomic way to prevent bending or reaching.

Shine - Proactive efforts are required to keep workplace areas clean and orderly to ensure purpose-driven work. This means cleaning and maintaining the newly organized workspace. It can involve routine tasks such as mopping, dusting, etc. or performing maintenance on machinery, tools, and other equipment.

Standardise - Create a set of standards for the company and its processes. This is where you take the first three S's and make rules for how and when these tasks will be performed. These standards can involve schedules, charts, lists, etc.

Sustain – Make sure new practices are met and conduct reviews to make sure it continues.
