What we can learn from the Germans about productivity

Britain is an amazing Country, don’t get me wrong, but our industrial productivity constantly falls way behind Germany, USA and even the long lunching French!

Why is this? I don’t believe it has anything to do with us working less hard than our friends in Europe and America, I think it has more to do with the tools that we give our workers to use.

At PARRS we see first-hand a reluctance to invest long-term to increase productivity. In our home lives we want to buy the latest smartphone, TV, kitchen gadget or car; but when we get to work our philosophy changes and we simply search for the cheapest product to do the job.

In Germany we see companies investing long-term in equipment that makes their staff more productive, safer, and healthier while we expect the same results without being prepared to invest in the right tools for the job.

Take, for example, the Expresso Sack Truck. This remarkable piece of German engineering is the number one truck across Europe and its users would never accept anything less. At just under £300, it is an investment and not a consumable product, but it is an investment that offers immediate returns in terms of productivity, health and safety, and company image.

There is hope though. Expresso brand has been adopted by the most successful, market leading businesses in their field, such as John Lewis, UPS and Domino’s.

Maybe it is time to catch up with the Germans on productivity and start using Expresso sack trucks.
